Bad Breath: A Smelly Situation

Bad breath, also referred to as halitosis, is an embarrassing symptom that impacts some people. There are many products available to fight this common problem such as gum, mints and mouthwash, but many of these are only short fixes and do not really address the cause of the problem.

Though certain foods can give you bad breath, in most cases bad breath is caused by poor dental hygiene. If you have bad breath, review your dental hygiene habits. Do you brush your teeth and tongue after eating? Do you floss your teeth regularly? A colorless and sticky film of bacteria is left on your teeth and if it is not brushed away can cause plaque to form between your teeth and gums. Your tongue can also trap bacteria that causes bad breath to form.

Even with these dental hygiene steps in mind if your bad breath persists see me in my office and we can assess if your bad breath could be a sign of a more serious condition.
