Coffee: Friend or Foe to your Smile

For many people coffee is an essential part of their daily routine. Most of us can’t live without the extra energy it gives to take on the day. But, could the happy attitude it gives also be dimming our stunning smiles with its stain?

Tooth enamel contains microscopic craters and cracks that let dark colored drinks such as coffee settle into. If proper care is not applied, this dark pigment can cause permanent yellowing stains on your teeth.

Obviously, giving up coffee or other stain-causing drinks like soda and tea is the best way to avoid this issue, but for individuals who need coffee in order to function, here are some tips on how to avoid a more permanent stain.

First, try and consume coffee at a specific time instead of sipping on it constantly throughout the day. Also, after consuming the coffee, rinse your mouth out with water or try to brush your teeth to help remove the pigment.

Visiting your dentist for regular cleanings is another very important step for removing surface stains on your teeth. This will give you a whiter smile and still let you have as many cups of coffee as you like.
